Afternoons Like These ☀️🐾

There’s nothing better than spending time with my gorgeous dogs on a beautiful afternoon. The air was fresh, the sky was blue, and the golden light made everything feel just a little more special. 🌿🌅🐕

After a few days stuck inside, I was pretty happy to get out and stretch my legs. Of course, I threw on the yellow gumboots thinking the track would be muddy… turns out, not so much... Except for one patch at the bottom of the hill, which I obviously had to stomp through—gotta make the most of it! 😆

The dogs, as always, were the perfect company. Watching them run, sniff, and just be in the moment is one of life’s simplest joys. 🐶💛

🚨 The Triple Six Chaos Zone 🚨

You think you know busy? You think you know chaos? Try six puppies, at six weeks old, with six days of nonstop rain. That’s a recipe for pure, unfiltered mayhem.

The good news? Toilet training is on point. The puppies now cry to go outside, and the moment I let them out, they bolt like tiny furry torpedoes to do their business. Even in the middle of the night, it’s a quick mission—out, sniff, potty, back to bed. Their pen? Still spotless (of poop anyway)…

The bad news? Mud. So. Much. Mud. More washing than an industrial laundromat. Puddles everywhere. And the occasional Puppy Rave™, featuring high-speed zoomies, wrestling matches, and more acrobatics than a circus act.

Hard to believe these little monkeys are already 6.5 weeks old! We had to postpone their six-week checkup thanks to the weather, but we’ll be rebooking this week for vaccinations, microchipping, and their health checks.

The puppies enjoyed their breakfast outside this morning, making the most of the fresh air before Cyclone Alfred started making its presence properly known. You can see the overcast skies in the distance, but at that moment, it was still calm and quite pleasant—hard to believe what’s coming!

This afternoon is a bit of a different story—plenty of rain and a bit of wind picking up, but so far, nothing too wild. Hoping everyone in Alfred’s path stays safe, dry, and prepared. Thinking of those who may be more affected—take care and check in on your neighbours. 💙

The puppies enjoyed their breakfast outside this morning, making the most of the fresh air before Cyclone Alfred started making its presence properly known. You can see the overcast skies in the distance, but at that moment, it was still calm and quite pleasant—hard to believe what’s coming!

This afternoon is a bit of a different story—plenty of rain and a bit of wind picking up, but so far, nothing too wild. Hoping everyone in Alfred’s path stays safe, dry, and prepared. Thinking of those who may be more affected—take care and check in on your neighbours. 💙

Yesterday should have been Lexi’s fourth birthday. 🎂💔 I still don’t know what happened to her—whether she was lost to a snake, wild dogs, or taken by someone who couldn’t resist her beauty and charm. What I do know is that she was deeply loved by us, and I hope she felt that every single day.

Putting these photos together brought a tear to my eye and a lump to my throat, but it also reminded me of the joy she brought into my life. She was my first girl, my heart dog, and she will always hold a special place in my soul.

🐶✨ Keeping the Puppy Pen Fresh & Safe! ✨🐶

This is the longest I’ve kept a litter of puppies inside for their nighttime sleeping and midday chill time… and with the cyclone that is coming this will continue to be what I do. Wherever my puppies are, cleaning is a big part of raising happy, healthy puppies, and I always make sure to use puppy-safe products! Instead of harsh chemicals, I use a simple homemade cleaner made from everyday ingredients:

✅ White vinegar – naturally disinfects 🦠
✅ Baking soda – lifts dirt & neutralises odours
✅ Water – keeps it gentle & residue-free
✅ A few drops of lavender essential oil 🌿 – safe for dogs & smells amazing!

But did you know? 🚨 Not all essential oils are safe for dogs! ❌ Some can be toxic and should never be used in areas where dogs eat, sleep, or play.

🚫 Tea Tree – highly toxic, even in small amounts
🚫 Eucalyptus – can cause breathing issues
🚫 Cinnamon – irritates skin and mucous membranes
🚫 Citrus oils (lemon, orange, etc.) – can upset their stomach and irritate skin
🚫 Peppermint – too strong and can lead to respiratory distress
🚫 Rosemary (in high amounts) – may trigger seizures in some dogs

That’s why I stick to lavender—it’s gentle, calming, and puppy-safe when used properly! 🐾

Spent a lovely afternoon with my cousin and her two beautiful Takilberan Border Collies, Huxley and Alfie. These boys are absolutely stunning! Poor Hux got his nose scratched by Alfie’s claws!! But he’s still beautiful. He wasn’t up for selfies today though .

A huge thank you to Peashell for the incredibly generous gift of bone broth for our doggies—packed with all the good stuff to keep them happy and healthy. And as a bonus, some delicious mousse made from the leftovers! Safe to say, my pack will be dining in style over the next few days.

It seems the team here at #TakilberanBorderCollies has some interesting work ethic…
• One pup fell asleep midway through walking through the doorway. Clearly, the commute was exhausting.
• Another dozed off inside the washing. We can only assume they were on laundry duty but took the ‘soft and fluffy’ instructions too seriously.
• One puppy collapsed on top of the mop—possibly too tired after a hard day’s mopping… or avoiding the job altogether.
• And two sneaky ones wedged themselves behind the shoebox. Hiding from their responsibilities, perhaps?

Moral of the story: Play hard, nap harder!

Arna’s little rascals aren’t giving up milk without a fight—but she’s making sure they earn it!

After I cleaned the whelping box last night, I put four of the puppies away… but when I turned around, Arna had turned weaning into a full-on game with the other two! She bounced around, playfully dodging them as they tried to sneak a feed—clearly encouraging them to be more independent. But just when it seemed like she was done, she flopped onto her back and let them have a little reward.

She’s such a fun, loving mum—guiding them towards independence while still giving them those comforting moments. Watching these little interactions is what makes raising puppies so special.

Arna’s Fruit Basket turned four weeks old yesterday, and they are absolutely thriving! They still love a good cuddle from us and suckle from Mumma (when she allows it-usually when they’re out exploring or while I’m cleaning up their space.)

We’ve started daily outdoor adventures, and while they’re still a little unsure about the big, wide world, their confidence is growing. They’ve also had an exciting new milestone—introducing chicken slurry! A couple of days ago, they got their first taste of minced chicken, partly cooked by pouring boiling water over it, with a little milk powder added. They find it absolutely delicious and are loving mealtime even more now (as if that was possible!).

Coconut, Blackberry, and Nashi already have loving families waiting for them, and there’s been some interest in the other three sweeties. For now, they’re busy being playful, curious, and just ridiculously cute.

Arna’s Fruit Basket turned four weeks old yesterday, and they are absolutely thriving! They still love a good cuddle from us and suckle from Mumma (when she allows it-usually when they’re out exploring or while I’m cleaning up their space.)

We’ve started daily outdoor adventures, and while they’re still a little unsure about the big, wide world, their confidence is growing. They’ve also had an exciting new milestone—introducing chicken slurry! A couple of days ago, they got their first taste of minced chicken, partly cooked by pouring boiling water over it, with a little milk powder added. They find it absolutely delicious and are loving mealtime even more now (as if that was possible!).

Coconut, Blackberry, and Nashi already have loving families waiting for them, and there’s been some interest in the other three sweeties. For now, they’re busy being playful, curious, and just ridiculously cute.

Our sweet babies had a day full of firsts today! 💕 They tried their very first puppy biscuits soaked in Divetelact, had their first adventure outside, and got their first introduction to more toys in their whelping box. 🧸🌿

They also now have constant access to water! Whether they’re actually drinking it or just having fun emptying the bowl is still up for debate. 🤭

✨ Three Weeks Old! ✨

This morning, Arna’s puppies officially hit the three-week mark! 🥳🐶 And honestly, this is one of my favourite ages. Their eyes are open, their legs are working, and their personalities are starting to shine through! 🌟 They’re playful. They’re talkative. They’re still sleepy. And they are ALWAYS hungry. 😂

So today, we introduced Divetelact 🍼—and let me tell you, they were more than ready! 🐾💦 Lots of lapping… but also Lots of walking in the milk. Lots of lying in the milk. Lots of licking it off each other (because why waste it?!). The cuteness was off the charts. 😍

Of course, this meant that several of them needed a little warm sponge bath 🚿🫧—not just because they were covered in milk (which they absolutely were), but because a few of them were due for a bit of a cleanup anyway. Arna will likely start cleaning up after them less now (which means more work for me 😆). And if I’m not right there to catch them when nature calls… well, let’s just say puppy feet + puppy poop = (not do) adorable chaos. 💩🐾

Tonight, I’ll do their last daily weigh-in to make sure they’re all growing beautifully. We’ll still be keeping a close eye on their progress to make sure they’re thriving, happy, and healthy. These little beans are doing so well, and I couldn’t be happier. 🥰

Arna is spending less time in the whelping box now, and when she does feed them, she prefers to stand up. Why? Because these little munchkins have TEETH! 😬🐶

Their playful little barks and wobbly attempts at pouncing on each other are melting our hearts every day. 💕

As they start eating solids, we’ll be upgrading them to a bigger space—because let’s be real, things are about to get messy (and stinkier! 😂).
